The Manhappenin' is the student magazine at Kansas State University. The Manhappenin' magazine prints one issue a semester along with posting online content regularly. I joined the Manhappenin' magazine staff in August 2020, and I was copy editor until May 2021. As a staff member, I wrote an article and designed a spread for our spring 2021 print issue, and I participated in an editorial photography workshop. As copy editor, I edited and proofread stories for the spring and fall print issues of the Manhappenin' along with proofing our online content. I also hosted several workshops over news writing, AP style and grammar with the other editors on staff. The Manhappenin' is 100% student-ran, and I improved my writing and design skills while diversifying my portfolio. I also learned more about collaborating with a team and creating a print publication.

SPRING 2021

While I was a member of the Manhappenin' magazine staff, I participated in an editorial photography workshop with other staff photographers. Editorial photography tells a story without text. This kind of photography was totally new to me, and it was fun to try something new. Portrait photography and styled shoots are a little out of my comfort zone, but I enjoyed taking photographs of something unique. I learned more about posing subjects, editing photographs in Adobe Lightroom Classic and how to style and work with models. I was also able to practice my manual camera settings.
